Good podcast once again guys - loved it....
Nicastri - you mean "rookie" of the year ( I hope he does it as well - it'd be good to see Australia get more exposure on the world stage ).... lets hope our Worlds team does well.... that's pretty key to his winning it as well...
I believe the highest placed zoo deck was 19th..... _________________ And my custom title has come true ..... far too soon..... after my nine year old finished higher in the standings than me at the Austin PTQ.... ..... |

There were a heap of Zoo Decks that made day 2 but then a lot of people decided to run it, so it performed pretty horribly.
I consider Dredge as a combo deck, its how you feel when playing it...do I get another turn?
The red one is harder to describe, I would just call it everything.
In regards to the Sydney PTQ you said your credit card didn't work for Modo boosters..
How can you have even a few hundred in credit card debt with the 50 days grace periods?
How can you justify spending hundreds of dollars on one magic tourney when your credit card is maxed?
Now obv you can afford to pay your credit card so under what sort of theory have you decided that you'd rather pay the CC 20% and have your money sit elsewhere, than just pay off your CC
Also does your CC have rewards points? |

Jarron was actually well-positioned against Elves in two different ways: Ethersworn Canonist in the maindeck and Slice and Dice in the sideboard. I only beat him in that unfortunate round that we paired because I was aware of his sideboard and I attacked his red mana with Ancient Grudge the turn before I unloaded elves into play.
Weird Harvest seems pretty awkward to me, Cameron. Have you tested the Chord version? Even LSV was sheepish in admitting that his team's conclusion of Harvest over Chord was probably not correct.
I don't actually like Elves of Deep Shadow that much since tapping for black mana doesn't actually let you cast very many cards. You have to weigh up the incremental gain of its ability to cast Hivemaster/Visionary, Weird Harvest (if you've got it), and Thoughtseize post-board against the extra percentage points you gain vs Zoo and the mirror. (If Essence Warden sticks around too long, Grapeshot might not get there any more and Predator Dragon can't kill in one go.) You argue that LSV can play less land, but he only has one less land than the other Elves decks in any case. I played 16 land (like LSV did) and did not have significant problems without a full 8 mana elves.
Man, I spent so long phrasing that paragraph that I forgot what else I was going to say. Oh, Mass Hysteria is horrid. I played it over Grapeshot out of Stifle fear (and flat out did not think of Predator Dragon or Mirror Entity) and I wished it was Grapeshot almost all the time. Mirror Entity is interesting in that it is actually unbounded: you can gain an arbitrary large amount of life and draw an arbitrary number of cards. That said, I like Grapeshot with a Brain Freeze in the board for the mirror. |
